We're going to be honest about something: hiring a concrete contractor can be a terrible experience. We know this because many of our customers found us after a bad experience with someone else. Here are the most common problems — and what you can do about them.
Problem #1: The Lowball Quote That Doubles
You get three quotes. One is significantly cheaper than the others. You hire that guy. Then the extras start: "The soil was worse than expected." "We need more rebar." "Permits weren't included." By the time you're done, the cheapest bid is the most expensive.
How to protect yourself:
Ask for a written, all-inclusive quote. If the contractor can't tell you exactly what's included, that's a red flag. Our pricing page explains what "all-inclusive" means.
Problem #2: No Communication When It Rains
It rains in East Texas. A lot. The problem isn't the rain — it's the silence. Your contractor was supposed to start Monday. It rained. Now it's Thursday and you haven't heard a word. Is the project delayed a day? A week? Nobody knows.
How to protect yourself:
Ask about their weather communication plan before you sign. If they don't have one, expect silence when it rains.
Problem #3: Messy Job Sites
Concrete work is inherently messy. But there's a difference between "we're working" and "we destroyed your yard and left concrete all over your foundation." A professional crew cleans up every day. An unprofessional one leaves you to deal with the mess.
Problem #4: Work That Fails Too Soon
Cracked driveways. Settling foundations. Scaling surfaces. These aren't acts of God — they're the result of cutting corners: wrong mix, no control joints, skipped soil prep, poor curing. The cheapest bid often correlates with the most corners cut.
Problem #5: No Warranty or Accountability
When something goes wrong, some contractors disappear. Changed phone number. No response to texts. If you can't reach them when things are good, you definitely can't reach them when things go wrong.
